Evening Meadow Walk at Broadmoor Common

On Thursday 25th July, we hosted our fourth meadow walk of the season at the stunning Broadmoor Common Local Nature Reserve.

Broadmoor Common was declared a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) – one of only 6 in the county – by Hereford and Worcester County Council in 1987. The reserve was designated primarily for its areas of flower-rich unimproved grassland which are of very high wildlife value. The Common is now managed by the Broadmoor Common Steering Committee which comprises of Commoners, Parish Councillors and local members of the public. They have an active group of volunteers and we were very fortunate to be joined by two Steering Group representatives who gave an overview of the sites past, present and current management including some of the challenges and opportunities a site such as this faces.

The guest speaker for the evening was Rowan McOnegal (@hedgerowpharmacy) who is an accredited herbalist and gave us a fascinating insight into the medic inal properties of many of our native grassland, hedgerow and woodland plants. Rowan runs courses throughout the year and you can find out more about these through her website here.

Many thanks to all who attended.
