For our second meadow walk of the summer we were very kindly hosted by Adhisthana, a Buddhist centre in Coddington. Adhisthana was one of our 2021 Meadow Maker sites and we supported them to create a new meadow on site using seed from an existing meadow which they had created in 2012.
We began the walk in the newly established meadow which is now a sea of ox eye daisies with knapweed flowers also just about to burst open. In just four years the number of plant species in the meadow has risen from 10 to 28 with four key indicator species present; yellow rattle, ox eye daisy, common knapweed and common bird’s foot trefoil. A fantastic achievement realised thanks to the careful management over the past four years. Rory led a discussion on meadow restoration and how this is typically carried out with Carys talking about the seed harvesting process.
We then walked on through the grounds passing through an area of newly created woodland and stopping at a fantastic ancient oak before coming out in the older meadow where we had time to pause and reflect and be led by Sanghadeva in contemplating the inherent beauty of meadows and the natural world.
We returned to the parking area via the stunning gardens to top of a fantastic midsummer evening.
This event was provided thanks to donations from our supporters to the Herefordshire Meadows Community fundraiser, and match funding from the Big Give Green Match Fund 2025.
