We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for our project ‘Meadow Connections’.

Working alongside community groups and organisations, the aim of this new project is to connect people in urban Herefordshire with wildflower meadow habitats. We will do this by creating mini urban meadows in carefully selected locations within Hereford, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Leominster. We will then use these locations as hubs for meadow themed community engagement activities, such as wildflower ID sessions, scything workshops, pollinator counts and more. This project has been developed in collaboration with local groups and residents, so we hope to see the new meadows thriving well beyond the funding term. Seeding works will take place at all the sites this September.

Even the smallest spaces provide a home and food for insects, birds and mammals. They also benefit people! Their beautiful colours, scents and textures calm the senses and reduce stress. Mini meadows can transform urban spaces and gardens into wildlife havens for people and nature to enjoy. Meadows cool the ground, improve air quality and need less watering and mowing than lawns, making them a low-maintenance way to support wildlife on your doorstep.
