Herefordshire Meadows have had another successful year in 2025 supporting the restoration of 82ha of grasslands at 16 sites across Herefordshire, including:
- 25.75ha of grassland restoration work was carried out in the Wye Valley National Landscape thanks to their Farming in Protected Landscapes funding.
- 39.03ha of grassland restoration work was carried out in the Malvern Hills National Landscape again thanks to funding from the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme.
- 14.32ha of grassland restoration work was carried out as part of Herefordshire Council’s Natural Flood Management project.
- 1.73ha of grassland restoration work was carried out in the Marstow area thanks to funding from the Wye Valley National Landscape, as part of their Magnificent Meadows, Tremendous Tree and Wonderful Wetlands project.
- 1.3ha of grassland restoration work was carried out in the far north of the county with funding from the former Kingspan Insulation Community Trust.
This year’s grassland restoration work brings the 7-year total to 379 hectares (937 acres) of grassland started on the road to recovery.
Thank you to all our partners and funders, and all the landowners committed to creating species-rich grassland on their properties and managing them sympathetically long-term. Also thank you to the 5 landowners who allowed us to harvest wildflower seed from their high-quality meadows this year, for use in the restoration works.
In addition to the above grassland restoration work, Herefordshire Meadows provided management advice to 30 landowners in the county via our Advisory Service, helping them to create and preserve species-rich grassland on their properties.
Herefordshire Meadows also hosted 21 events, including 5 training days, 6 meadow walks, and visits to school and community groups.
In 2025 Herefordshire Meadows also launched the Meadow Monitors project, engaging 20 volunteers to survey 40 meadows at 27 sites across the county, helping us to monitor progress at previous year’s restoration sites.
