Introduction to Plant Identification – rapid monitoring method

26May2021

Zoom training with County Plant Recorder, Stuart Hedley

From 3pm until 5pm

At Zoom webinar

Stuart Hedley will lead a zoom session on meadow plant identification aimed at beginners and improvers.  We will focus on an introduction to our rapid monitoring method because it gives us a quick way to assess changes in plants due to meadow management and restoration.

This is a must for those in the 2021 Meadow Makers project and anyone else making a meadow with any source of funding, in a stewardship scheme or under your own steam.  It will help you get started with your 2021 baseline survey as well as a refresher for those who are a year or more into the process.

Before the training session please watch the short video about our rapid monitoring method in advance. And order a hand lens and wildflower guide if you don't have one.  Suppliers suggested on Survey and Monitoring page

Stuart will then cover some essential ID tips focussing on buttercups, clovers, and some other common meadow plants. And you can take a look in advance at some of the problem pairs that often prove hard to distinguish.

If you have material from the field that you’d like help with ID please take very good quality photos with your camera or phone horizontal to the ground and send a couple of selected, in focus, photos to one of the Herefordshire Meadows team in advance of the event.

All welcome but booking essential
